Friday Faves - The Broom Chick

My mother used to make brooms when she was living, so I have a soft spot for broom makers. She used materials right from our own yard to do it too. They worked so well. I always felt they were much better than the ones we sometimes bought from the store.

I love handmade brooms like the ones The Broom Chick makes. These brooms are lovely and have an old world charm that is simply wonderful. Just take a look inside her shop at Etsy and see the creative way she has with broom corn and the other materials she uses to make these amazing brooms.

What I Believe - Meet the Mormons

Meet the Mormons is a documentary featuring six different families who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is coming to theaters across the United States October 10, 2014. This movie will answer many questions that you may have about what Mormons believe and how they live.

I can think of no better way to learn about a a religion than by going straight to the source: the members themselves.

This is what I believe.

Friday Faves - tiny confessions

I confess! I confess! I love the shop I'm sharing with you this week because secretly I feel a little catty sometimes. Maybe a little doggie.  Oh, what the heck! I love all God's creatures great and small! I'll pet any small (or large), furry animal that doesn't bite!

I love the humor and the imagination that goes into making these tiny confessions.

What I Believe - Love Thy Neighbor

". . . Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." (Matthew 22:39)

I love this commandment, but the part that I think is the most important is the part about loving our enemies, not because it's an easy task for me. Oh, no! And not because I like difficult tasks either. It's because one of my greatest friends was first my enemy. If we both hadn't chosen to love rather than hate we would have missed out on some of the most fun moments of our lives.

"Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven..." (Matthew 5:43-45)

This is what I believe.

What I Believe - Joseph Smith

Joseph Smith: The Prophet of the Restoration:

"Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets." Amos 3:7

Joseph Smith, Jr., was only fourteen when he experienced something that would ultimately bring about the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. From those humble beginnings on his father's farm until the day he paid the ultimate price and was martyred for his beliefs, Joseph Smith, Jr.'s reliance upon the Lord never ceased.

Joseph Smith followed through in all of the things that were required of him and, thus, we have The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, of which I am a grateful member.

I trust with all the faith in my heart that Joseph Smith is a true prophet of God.

This is what I believe.

Friday Faves - Katwise

One of my most favorite shops on Etsy is one that goes simply by the name Katwise. I love this lady's work and, in my opinion, she is -- the most interesting woman in the world. She would laugh about that because she's also a very sweet and humble person too.

Katwise makes some of the most beautiful sweater coats I've ever seen. She takes old sweaters, cuts them up, serges the seams and turns them into masterpieces of color and form. Essentially, if you buy a Katwise sweater coat, you WILL be wearing a work of art.

Right now there are no coats in her shop, but she has many patterns that are available for purchase so you can make one for yourself in the Katwise style. However, on August 31, 2014 at 12:00 PM New York Time, she will have a whole bunch of new sweaters that she has just created. But act fast! Because her sweaters literally fly off the cyber shelves of her Etsy shop as soon as she posts them. Yes, they are that amazing!

Take a look at her Facebook page to see her upcoming collection:
