Thanksgiving Party Planning

Turkey Day!!! That's what some of us here in the United States like to call Thanksgiving, because it's probably one of the few times during the year that we actually go to the trouble to roast such a large bird.

But turkeys aren't all that Thanksgiving is about. Traditionally it's believed that the holiday is due to a harvest celebration held by the Pilgrims in 1621. In modern times Thanksgiving is about gathering with friends and family to show a little gratitude for each other and the blessings of that year. It doesn't even have to be religious in celebration, although many do take the opportunity to say a special thank you to God. Thanksgiving in the United States is the American version of harvest celebrations from around the world, such as Martinmas or other locally named harvest festivals in France, Erntedanktag in Germany and Lammas, Mabon and Samhain in Ireland for their three harvest celebrations. It goes way back in American history, even as far back as 1565 right here in Florida in the town of Saint Augustine when the Spanish held their first Harvest Feast.

Here's a lovely piece of music to start our Thanksgiving Party Planning shopping with by George Winston called Thanksgiving:
