Friday Faves 25 - Music

Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. - Berthold Auerbach

Most of us love music. Sure, we have our personal preferences. What suits one person's ear may not suit another person's ear. I, for one, enjoy a variety of musical genres. I've even been known to write my own songs -- more for my own pleasure and the sheer experience of it than anything else, though.

Music is such a great part of most of us. There even have been those who have died and were later resuscitated who said that the place where they went was filled with music, even the plants seemed to emanate music.

Long before NASA launched probes with technology enabling them to convert magnetic and electromagnetic signals into sounds, Johannes Kepler, the famous German mathematician and astronomer, sought to find a correlation between music and movement in the solar system. Yes, Kepler, the Universe sings! And what's more, each galaxy sings its own distinctive song!

Even the deaf can benefit from music and it often plays an important role in their education.

So I guess one could say that Music is in our souls.

Here's a good clip of "space music" using amateur radio telescopes:

Now, let's go shopping!

Music Shop Number 1
Shop Name: Gumbalina
http://www.etsy.com/shop/gumbalina?ref=seller_info

For the serious guitar enthusiast or luthier, this shop has a vintage 1926 Gibson L3. My dad had an L7, so I know these guitars have amazing workmanship to begin with. It would be great to see someone who really loves old guitars take this baby home to restore it to its former glory.

Music Shop Number 2
Shop Name: Ryan Oldcastle
http://www.etsy.com/shop/ryanoldcastle?ref=seller_info#

What have I said about Etsy? You never know what you're going to find. And right here, my friends, we have a most amazing and talented find in a fine artist/musician/composer, Ryan Oldcastle. Not only does he create amazing, dreamy music, but he paints awesomely as well.

Seriously, check this man out!

I WILL be purchasing.

Please note that from September 1st until October 16th Ryan will be away on tour and will not be able to ship paintings or CDs during that time, but they will ship after October 17th. If you like digital copies (I do) you can download his music from his website www.ryanoldcastle.com.

Music Shop Number 3
Shop Name: Jacks Red Barn
http://www.etsy.com/shop/jacksredbarn?ref=seller_info

My friends, the next find is both rare and unusual. I know I have never heard of it before, but it is definitely worth a look, because if you're a serious rare music-related collector this item is definitely right up your alley. If I had the cash, I'd love to have it -- just because it's so unique! What a conversation starter!

Music Shop Number 4
Shop Name: youngwolfie's

Maybe, like me, you like to write your own songs and you like to record your music manually using a pen or pencil. Well, a music journal is just the ticket for you! And here at youngwolfie's you will find a number of music journals to while away the hours when you need to get the music that's flowing through your mind down on paper.

And for those of you who prefer to thump, pound and beat out a rhythm, All Natural Acoustics has just the handy dandy percussion device for you! This is a nifty little item that the designer calls a Knuckle Knocker. Love it!
