Friday Faves 62 - Generation X

Generation X... What is it? When did it begin and when does it end?

Well, generations are funny things, they tend to overlap and trail off into each other. For some, Generation X begins in 1965 and to others, like me, born a little earlier in the 60s who feel more Gen X than Baby Boomer, we believe it began in 1961 or 1962. It varies depending on who you talk to about it.

Now as far as ending is concerned -- that's anyone's guess as well. It could be 1976, 1977 or even 1980. Those would be the cut off dates as to when Generation Xers were born.

But whenever it began and whenever it ends it's a generation of fairly diverse interests and happenings. After all, no matter when you think it began, the 1960s and all their wild and flower-powered ways was happening, man. And by the time it ended we were into the Punk scene, man. Yeah, we were still saying 'man'. But as my dad pointed out to me -- so was he, and he grew up during the 1930s Depression.

What can I say, some things never change and then some things, well, I'll let you see for yourself as we browse the shops on Etsy to find some really bitchin' gear and rags.

But before we begin we need a little mood music. I think we'll do a little something from Wall of Voodoo with Mexican Radio.

There have been a lot of talented people who have touched our lives in some way or another and then were gone, either by a shot from their own gun, like Kurt Cobain, or the shot from someone else's, like John Lennon or, as in this beautiful artwork, Tupac Shakur.

Of course there's no way I can touch on all of the great fads, interesting happenings or the political ups and downs that this generation some call X has known. But it was fun (and sometimes a little sad) to remember what we've all seen and experienced, whether Boomer Generation, Gen X, Y or even Z.

Next week Friday Faves is going dark, morbid and, well, a little creepy when we go Goth.

Until then, have a great weekend everyone and take care out there!
